In an extremely low turnout election, all four millage issues on last Saturday’s ballot were overwhelmingly approved.
Washington Parish voters said yes to:
•A 4,83 mill, 10 years renewal for the Washington Parish School System’s operations and maintenance millage;
•A 3 mill, 10 years renewal of a millage to operate the Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice District’s Detention Center.
•A 15 mill, 10 years renewal for Fire District 4; and
•A 6 mill, 10 years renewal for Fire District 8.
In one of the lowest voter turnouts in recent memory, all four of the millage renewals passed easily.
For the Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice District, it was 74% for and 26 percent against in Washington Parish. Yes votes were 1,481; no votes were 509.
In the entire district, consisting of Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Livingston, and St. Helena parishes, it was 65% yes and 32% no.
The school system millage renewal passed with a 76%-24% margin. Yes votes were 1,145 and no votes were 371.
The Fire District 4 renewal passed with 229 yes votes and 40 no votes.
The Fire District 8 renewal passed with 99 yes votes and 26 no votes.
The Washington Parish voter turnout for the election was surprisingly low. Here are the turnout percentages by each of the four renewals:
Juvenile Justice District --- 7.1%
Washington Parish Schools --- 8.2%
Fire District 4 ---9.0%
Fire District 8 --- 11.6%
