Franklinton High school has appointed a new football coach to fill the opening created when Jonathon Barber stepped down recently.
Guy Lecompte will take over the reins of the Demons football program and will also be the FHS Athletic Director.
Lecompte has over 25 years as a high school football coach, most recently at Metairie Park Country Day where he led his team to the playoffs both seasons he was there. He also was head football coach at Mandeville High from 2006-2016 and led the Skippers to the playoffs every season he was there, including three state semi-final appearances. Earlier in his career Lecompte was an assistant at Salmen when the Spartans won three state titles.
At an introduction meeting held last week Coach Lecompte said what he wanted for the players at Franklinton High “was for them to be successful beyond high school.”
Some of the goals he would have for his team would be to "be a team". He advised this would not only apply to the team but to the entire community. Another goal was to out-work their opponents. "Other schools may have more money or more this or more that, but they have the same amount of time in a day and we'll get the most out of our time".
He went on to talk about having a positive effect on the team and that he wanted the team to be champions and part of that was to act like champions on and off the field.
Lecompte credited the administration at Franklinton High as his main reason for applying for the job and said that there are only a handful of high schools in the state that have administrations that are willing to give the support necessary for a quality football program, and FHS is one of those.
During a question and answer session he fielded the question of "how would he get the players to buy in?" Coach Lecompte's answer was "Sweat equity, you will always take care of the bicycle you buy more than the one you are given."
Coach Lecompte will begin on January 3, when school resumes after the holiday break. Coach Lecompte is the 25th head coach of the Demons and is the first coach hired at Franklinton High since Greg Duvall was hired in 1992 that has previous head football coaching experience. He is also the first that was a sitting head football coach at another school to move to Franklinton High since Coach Donald Currier in 1980.
