As recently announced, the trees in front of and along side the parish courthouse have been cut down.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) cut the trees Monday afternoon.
The trees had to come down, parish officials said, because branches had fallen off and the trees had become a hazard to pedestrians and vehicles passing by.
DOTD handled the removal of the trees because they were actually on state property, not parish property.
Parish officials said replacement trees will be planted before long.
