Jason Smith of Mount Hermon officially became Washington Parish Sheriff last Friday evening. He was sworn in to office in front of a crowd of deputies, other officials, and supporters. In the photo above, Smith is being sworn in by retired District Court Judge Bill Burris (obscured) as the new sheriff’s wife, Rebekah, holds the Bible. Looking on at the right are Smith’s three children. Following the swearing in, refreshments were served inside the courthouse as a large crowd mingled and congratulated the new sheriff.
On the previous evening, Thursday, a celebration event was held at the Coke Factory Event Center in Bogalusa, with special guest Gov. Jeff Landry. Smith was elected last November. See additional photos in this week's print edition of The Era-Leader.
