Now that the pandemic is fading, the Franklinton Chamber of Commerce wants to resume its efforts to promote the businesses, industries, and professionals of Franklinton.
The pandemic took a toll on the once-thriving Chamber. When COVID was foremost in peoples’ minds, it was difficult to get everyone together for a regular meeting.
A group of interested Chamber members met on Monday of this week and began formulating plans to get the Chamber back on track.
The first order of business was to appoint an acting president. Stuart Varnado, who is with Farm Bureau Insurance, was appointed. He will serve as president for the immediate future.
Varnado said he is excited that the Chamber is now back in business and ready to return to its previous busy schedule of promoting commerce in Franklinton.
He is planning a “meet and greet” for Friday, April 29 at noon at Sugar Shack restaurant for everyone who is interested in finding out more and perhaps joining.
Varnado is asking former Chamber members or those who would like to become members to contact him. His cell number is 985-515-0542.
Or email the Chamber at thefranklintonchamber@gmail.com. Another contact is Sarah Cook in the Parish Government Office. Her number is 985-515-0720.
It wasn’t very long ago that the Franklinton Chamber was one of the largest civic organizations in all of Washington Parish. The group constantly stayed busy with promotional and community activities. The individuals who are currently working to get the Chamber back on track want everyone in Franklinton who shares their vision of an active and energetic Chamber to attend the April 29 meeting, or if that is impossible, to contact the Chamber to express interest.
