The Washington Parish Council held its final meeting of 2022 on December 27. The brief agenda consisted of adopting several resolutions. First the council approved the meeting schedule for 2023. Next, the Council adopted an ordinance establishing a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Frankie Miller Road and Bill Simmons Road in the Mt. Hermon community.
The Council then approved the appointment of Thomas Garric and James Dobbs to Fire District No. 2 Board of Directors. They also approved the appointment of Tim Magee and Ellie King to the Fire District No. 8 Board of Directors.
The Council then moved to public participation. Ms. Jackie Tate, a regular attendee at Parish Council meetings, thanked the board for its hard work and support of parish residents in 2022.
She also wished them all a happy New Year. Parish President Richard Thomas had a brief report primarily reminding everyone that the Parish Government offices would be closed on December 30 and Monday, January 2.
Transportation Manager Donnell Merritt gave a brief report on the monthly activities of the transportation department ending with New Year's wishes for everyone, echoed by Floodplain Manager Ken Wheat.
During Council Discussion, Councilmen Reginald McMasters, Joe Culpepper, Kim Wagner, Clark Harry and Rusty Fornea all expressed their appreciation for their co-workers and wishes for a happy New Year. Councilwoman Wagner stated, "It is an honor to serve on the council, and it was a tough year."
Council Chairman Carley King shared his appreciation for everyone in Parish Government and thanked everyone for supporting his year as chairman.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The Council will meet next on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers.
