At the May 9th Washington Parish Council Meeting, Ordinance No. 22-712 was adopted which stated the taxes for 2022 would be levied at the same rate as those from the previous tax year. This ordinance applies to the following Millages: Exempted Municipalities- Inside (1.85), General Alimony- Outside (3.70), Health Unit (3.11), Library (4.60), Roads and Bridges (4.13), Roads and Bridges (10.00), and Courthouse and Public Buildings (1.03).
Also adopted at the recent Parish Council meeting is Resolution NO. 22-1161, which orders an election during November to authorize the renewal of a one-third of one cent sales and use tax in Washington Parish.
During his report given at the meeting, Washington Parish President Richard N. Thomas Jr. announced, "We've done quite a bit without having the people of this parish come up with any new taxes." Even though the parish has managed to provide the community with services without the implementation of new taxes, Thomas explains that, "We've got to remind people how important this renewal is."
Another topic of importance at the latest Parish Council meeting was the upcoming start of 2022's hurricane season, which begins June 1st. Regarding the most recent major storm, Hurricane Ida, President Thomas explains that FEMA has sent funding for two recovery projects within the parish and that everything appears to be on track to receive the money soon.
After these topics were addressed, the Council meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is May 23rd at 6:00 pm at the Courthouse.
