On Monday of this week, at approximately 6:15 pm, the Franklinton Police Department received a 911 call regarding a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Washington Street and T.W. Barker Drive, near the Chevron Station.
Police, fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders found a 74 year old female, identified as Barbara Adams of 1004 T.W. Barker Drive, Franklinton. She was alert and communicative at the time, only exhibiting minor injuries. However due to the nature of the accident, Mrs. Adams was transported by Northshore Ambulance to Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Mandeville to address potential internal injuries.
While enroute to the hospital, the Franklinton Police Department received a communication stating that Mrs. Adams was in critical condition.
Subsequently, a short time later, the police department received notification that she had succumbed to her injuries sustained during the crash.
Evidence obtained from the crash scene indicates that the driver of the vehicle was traveling east on Washington St. at approximately 25 mph during heavy rain. For reasons unknown, Mrs. Adams entered Washington St. from the Chevron parking lot into oncoming traffic and was struck.
Additional evidence is being collected and impairment is not suspected on behalf of the driver.
