Members of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church near Pine watched in horror Sunday night as a fire destroyed the church.
The church is located just off of Highway 62 at Luke Pace Road northeast of Pine.
Firefighters from Washington Parish Fire District 4 in Pine battled the blaze. Flames from the fire could be seen for a mile.
As of presstime Monday evening, an investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office was underway. The investigation is expected to pinpoint the cause and the origin of the fire.
Meanwhile, Harmony Church members have said they are determined to rebuild. One member said, “A church is more than a building. We are still a church even without a building.”
