After missing last year because of COVID, the annual Krewe of Pepe parade is back for 2022.
The Pepe parade will roll on its traditional route, starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 27.
Pepe Tate, founder of the Krewe, invites everyone in this area to come and enjoy the parade.
The Krewe of Pepe is not selecting a King and Queen this year, with the hope that things will be completely normal next year and that a King and Queen will be selected then.
The theme for 2022 is “Coming together again” and it reflects the continued hopes and prayers of everyone involved in the Krewe of Pepe for our community and the surrounding areas.
The 2022 Grand Marshal for the Krewe of Pepe parade is Shane Smith, principal of Franklinton High School.
Although he is principal, Smith is perhaps best known as the winningest football coach in FHS history. Among his wins was the 2010 victory in the Superdome that made the Franklinton Demons the state Class 4A football champions.
Smith served as head football coach of the Franklinton Demons for 17 seasons, from 1999 ‘til 2015. After stepping down as FHS head football coach, he worked at Southeastern Louisiana University and then in the central office of the Washington Parish School System. In 2021, he was named principal of Franklinton High School, succeeding the retiring Rene Burris.
