The Washington Parish School System has announced the future home of the Thomas Early Learning Center. This project is possible through the hard work and dedication of state Rep. Malinda White and Dr. Jerry Thomas, with the support of the Washington Parish Early Childhood Network.
The Thomas community is experiencing rapid population growth, but has no early learning providers. Seventy-two percent of families with young children have both parents in the workforce and lack early childhood education options for their children. After school, holiday, and summer care are also a challenge for working parents.
Dana Jacobs, Director of Jacob’s Ladder, an early learning center in Franklinton, will collaborate with the Washington Parish School System to operate the Thomas center.
When completed, the Thomas Early Learning Center will provide quality education and care to children from birth to age 3, including many who are at risk for academic failure. It will also provide after-school care for school aged children.
