With a major election coming up this fall, people who are not registered to vote still have two months left before the registration deadline.
The registration deadline is October 5 if you want to vote in the November 5 election. That’s the deadline if you register in person at the Registrar of Voter’s office in the courthouse. If you register online at the Secretary of State’s “GeauxVote” system, you have until October 15 to register.
The November 5 election is headlined by the presidential race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris. Also on the ballot will be independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and several other minor presidential candidates.
Voters will also vote for a 5th District Congressman. The incumbent, U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow, is seeking re-election and she is opposed by two candidates.
Two races that are drawing attention in Franklinton are the election for Mayor and the election for 5 Aldermen. Two candidates are running for Franklinton Mayor and 7 candidates are seeking the 5 Aldermen positions. With 3 current aldermen not seeing re-election, the new board of aldermen will have some new faces.
There will also be a Mayor’s election in Angie, and in Varnado 5 candidates are seeking the 3 Alderman seats.
In Bogalusa, 3 candidates are running for the District B City Council seat.
