On December 2, Washington Parish became the 24th parish in Louisiana to be recognized as a StormReady parish.
The recognition comes as a result of the parish’s organization and implementation of emergency weather related preparation.
Parish Homeland Security Director Bobbi Jo Breland commented, “I am pleased that through the efforts of my office and all those involved with emergency preparedness, Washington Parish is now recognized as a StormReady parish. This recognition will also help with the parish’s CRS rating and may lower NFIP insurance premiums. “
She added, “In a letter from the National Weather Service, earning the Storm Ready recognition indicates Washington Parish has shown a strong commitment to improving emergency first responder and citizen preparedness in the event of a natural disaster. This recognition includes all communities within Washington Parish for which the parish has responsibility and authority.”
