The Washington Parish Fair Parade Committee has announced that the grand marshal for the 2022 Fair parade will be Margaret Orr.
Chief meteorologist Margaret Orr joined WDSU News in 1979 as a general assignment reporter. In 2009, she began forecasting weather for the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. news after many years on the morning news.
She became co-host of the "Breakfast Edition" with Bill Stanley, and later co-host of the "World's Fair Show" with Alec Gifford. For more than 20 years, Margaret has co-hosted the Children's Hospital Telethon with Norman Robinson, helping to raise millions of dollars for Children's Hospital.
Margaret grew up in New Orleans where she graduated from Louise S. McGehee School. She attended LSU in Baton Rouge. She was always fascinated by weather after standing in the eye of Hurricane Betsy as a child. As her fascination with weather grew, she completed the Mississippi State Broadcast Meteorology program.
Margaret is a member of the American Meteorology Society and the National Weather Association. She has Seals of Approval from both. She’s won first-place awards from the Associated Press and the New Orleans Press Club for weather reports.
Margaret is married with three children and has a dog named Bleu. Bleu is royalty -- he was King of Barkus. Margaret likes to garden, paint, read, swim and bike.
