A collision with an alleged drunk driver Thursday night has sent a Washington Parish deputy to the hospital.
Sgt. John O’Hern was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred on Highway 25 near Franklinton.
He was responding to a call of a vehicle being driven on the wrong side of the road.
As he approached the vehicle, it crashed into O'Hern’s Chevrolet Tahoe police cruiser.
O’Hern was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, including a shattered pelvis, a dislocated femur bone, and multiple cuts and bruises.
Sheriff Randy Seal said it was fortunate that O’Hern was driving the large, heavy Tahoe. Otherwise, the injuries could have been even worse.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was also injured and was taken to the hospital. His name has not yet been released by the Sheriff’’s Office, but multiple charges are pending.
Louisiana State Police are investigating the accident.
