When filing for the 2023 election takes place next week, Washington Parish is expected to lose both of its current representatives in the Louisiana House of Representatives.
Rep. Malinda White of District 75 is running for Parish President instead of another term in the legislature. And Rep. Larry Frieman of District 74 is running for judge in the 22nd Judicial District instead of seeking re-election.
But State Sen. Beth Mizell of Franklinton will be seeking re-election to her third term.
White represents most of Washington Parish in the state House of Representatives. Her 75th District covers all of the parish except for a slice of far western Washington Parish. Frieman’s District 74 is mostly based in St. Tammany Parish, with the exception of the small part of Washington Parish that’s included in it.
Several candidates have come forward for both the impending District 75 and District 74 vacancies.
A complete listing of candidates who file will be published in The Era-Leader after the three-day filing period of August 8-10. In addition, candidate filings will be reported each day of the filing period at www.era-leader.com.
Parish candidates will file at the Clerk of Court’s office in the courthouse, and state candidates will file at the Secretary of State’s Office in Baton Rouge. Candidates who have questions about filing can call the Clerk of Court’s office at 839-4663.
