Newly elected Washington Parish President Ryan Seal will be sworn into office on January 8, 2024.
He will be sworn in along with all of the parish councilmen prior to the regular Parish Council meeting.
All of the re-elected councilmen and one new member will be starting new four-year terms, as will Seal.
Seal will succeed Parish President Richard N. Thomas, who is retiring after serving as Parish President since January 2008.
Newly elected State Rep. John Wyble will also be sworn in on January 8 but his ceremony will occur at the state capitol in Baton Rouge. State Sen. Beth Mizell, who was re-elected to her third term in October, will also be sworn in then, as will all Louisiana legislators..
Wyble will resign from the Washington Parish School Board in early January. It is expected that the school board will then appoint an interim member to replace Wyble, with an election for the Franklinton-area District 2 seat scheduled for the fall of 2024.
Washington Parish Sheriff-elect Jason Smith will be sworn in on July 1, 2024.
