Bogue Chitto State Park continues to expand its offerings.
The park only recently enhanced its mountain biking trails and constructed an amazing mountain biking skills practice area, among other upgrades.
This past week, the park announced that a special needs children’s playground will be constructed. The specialized playground will provide multi-sensory play experiences enabling children of varying ages and abilities to play and interact together.
Lieutenant Gov. Billy Nungesser, who is in charge of state parks, said, “While there is still much work to be done, we are one step closer to completion of the new playground that addresses a variety of needs now that the concrete has been poured at Bogue Chitto State Park.
He added, “We’re excited to bring this special playground to reality for children of all abilities to enjoy and explore. We also hope to add projects such as this to all of our other state parks.”
The 7,300 square foot playgrounds will not only have special play equipment but shaded areas, benches and picnic tables. Construction is expected to be completed in October.
The playground was funded through a Land and Water Conservation Fund 50% cost-share grant.
