The Bowling Green Bucs and Lady Bucs played their first basketball home games of the 2021-22 season last week.
The Lady Bucs hosted Simpson Academy of Mendenhall, MS last Monday. The visiting Lady Cougars got off to a fast start and led 13-8 after one quarter. Bowling Green rebounded with a 16-14 edge in the second as Simpson held a 27-24 lead at the half. Coach Barry Seal's Lady Bucs more than doubled Simpson in the third by outscoring the Lady Cougars 13-6. A 12-11 Simpson advantage in the fourth wouldn't be enough as Bowling Green claimed a 48-45 win over the Lady Cougars.
Bailey Devall led the Lady Bucs with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals and Peyton Dupuy scored 8 points with 4 steals. Anna Claire Crowe (3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists) and Chloe Bertrand (4 rebounds) each scored 6 points with KaKa Seal (2 rebounds and 1 block) and Bridget Devall (2 rebounds and 2 steals) both adding 5 points.
On Tuesday the Lady Bucs hosted Amite School Center from Liberty, MS. Bowling Green stormed out to a 23-7 lead after one quarter. The Lady Bucs outscored ASC 19-10 in the second and held a commanding 42-17 halftime lead. The Lady Rebels claimed a low-scoring 8-4 third-quarter before Bowling Green outscored ASC 13-11 in the fourth for a 59-36 win.
Hope Crowe scored 13 points with 2 rebounds and 2 steals to lead the Lady Bucs and Anna Claire Crowe had 9 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. Bailey Devall (2 rebounds and 2 steals), KaKa Seal (4 steals), Claire Wascom (4 steals) and Bridget Devall (2 rebounds and 2 assists) each scored 7 points, and Peyton Dupuy added 5 points with 2 rebounds.
Thursday the Lady Bucs faced Jackson Academy. The visiting Lady Raiders held a 9-7 lead at the end of one quarter. Each team scored 12 points in the second as JA led 21-19 at the half. Bowling Green outscored the Lady Raiders 15-7 in the third quarter to hold a 34-28 lead. Jackson Academy outscored the Lady Bucs 16-6 in the final period of play to claim a come-from-behind 44-40 win.
Bailey Devall led all scorers with 19 points to go with 8 rebounds while KaKa Seal had 7 points and 3 rebounds. Anna Claire Crowe had 5 points with 3 assists, Chloe Bertrand scored 4 with 2 assists, Hope Crowe added 3 with 2 assists and Bridget Devall finished with 2 points and 3 assists.
The Buccaneers also hosted Simpson Academy on Monday. The Cougars led 27-8 after one quarter and 50-17 at the half. Simpson went on to claim a 74-25 win over the Buccaneers. Nathan Jenkins led the Bucs with 7 points, Gage Richardson had 5, Will Hollywood scored 4, Connor Dedon added 3 and Peyton Sumrall, Hunter Thomas and Zeke Burford each finished with 2.
Tuesday the Bucs took on Amite School Center. Bowling Green led 13-5 after the first quarter. ASC outscored the Bucs 9-6 in the second with Bowling Green holding a 19-14 lead at the half. BGS outscored the Rebels 17-12 in the third before dominating the fourth 20-2 to claim a 47-28 win. Nathan Jenkins scored 17 for the Bucs, Zeke Burford had 14, and Connor Dedon totaled 8. Westin Bush scored 5, Hunter Thomas added 4, Nate Keen had 3 and Gage Richardson and Will Hollywood each added 2.
