Game of the Week - Amite at Lakeshore. This is a game of possible playoff contenders. The Warriors made a deep playoff run last year and the Titans have deep playoff intentions this season and the two will square off and test each other this Friday at Lakeshore.
While Amite has only played one game due to the hurricane, Lakeshore has only played twice losing once to Northshore.
Two usually well coached teams that have deep playoff notions in their respective classes getting it on early in the regular season.
Should be a good one.
Notes and Quotes
"Great win for our program, I'm proud of our guys. This was a win that our entire community needed. It was truly amazing to see our student body so excited. Our students have been through a lot recently and being part of bringing that joy to them was really special. As far as our team, it's a win that we had to have. We have had two tough losses to start the season and we are in the middle of three straight games versus 5A schools. We talked all week about sticking together and doing whatever it takes to get the win. Our guys dominated the game from the start. They made a couple adjustments at halftime so we gave up a score to start the third, but our offense immediately came back and restored order. It is very gratifying when we can dominate all three phases of the game like we did last night. We have another huge test next week and we will be ready. Go Demons!" Franklinton head football coach Jonathon Barber
"This was a big win for our program. We are playing a lot of young players and they seem to be growing up a little each week. Adrainuen (Johnson) is running the ball well and got big plays out of Anterrius Walker and Kemontre Magee." Pine head football coach Bradley Seal
"It was a tough night for us all around. Defensively we struggled to tackle their running back and offensively we struggled getting anything positive going. We just have to put this behind us and move to the next week." Bens Ford head football coach Destin Pittman
"Competed for 48 minutes in an amazing environment. Growing pains are still evident as we are getting closer to success, that's coaching and on us as coaches to get cleaned up. Very excited to see how we respond and couldn't be more excited to see my Demons! Franklinton will always be my first and I owe Shane Smith so much!" Denham Springs head football coach Brett Beard
"Well, in all honesty we just are a very inexperienced, very immature group right now. We are improving, but as the competition gets better going into district, we are going to need to take some great strides to be competitive. We are very good in spots, just not good enough to overcome the barrage of penalties and mistakes yet. We will watch the film, make the correctios and coach them up hard as we always do, to held them be successful next week." Mandeville head football coach Hutch Gonzales
"Coaching staff did a great job of simplifying the game plan to eliminate turnovers and take control of the ball game. Offensively, the guys did a great job of winning the battle at the line of scrimmage. Our skill guys did their part in protecting the football. On a field with wet and slippery conditions the difference is who turns the ball over and who doesn't. Defensively, we produced three interceptions and offensively we had no turnovers. So in the end we are 1-0 on the season. This week we have to prepare for a very good coached St Thomas Aquinas. It will be a tough task, but I know our guys, they will work hard. They will be prepared." Independence head football coach Scott Shaffett
"We were rusty as well as Sumner. Penalties, turnovers and time off really was the them of last night! But we played stellar on defense. They have a really good rushing attack and we did a good job of holding them in check. Offensively we played good in spurts but we were limited in practice this week due to weather because we were inside. But overall, very pleased with the effort and looking forward to our first home game." Amite head football coach Zephaniah Powell
