Game of the Week - Belle Chasse (1-1) at Franklinton (1-3). I scoured the schedule looking for another game of the week but I just couldn't get away from this one. I really feel this will be a good one.
The Demons have been improving each week despite it not showing in their record and are better than a 1-3 team.
The Cardinal have only played twice and are looking to get on track after a tough loss to Salmen last week.
After playing three 5A teams in a row the Demons are now punching in their own weight class and looking for things to even up.
Should be a good one.
Notes and Quotes
"We got off to another slow start. They were big and physical up front and they gave us some different stuff offensively early on. We finally adjusted about half way through the second quarter and I thought we played really well after that. We played hard throughout but made a few too many mistakes to win the game. When you play a good football team you have to make them beat you and not beat yourself. We played well enough to win the game, but in critical spots we made too many mistakes. We are improving tremendously, and will continue to do so, but we have to get our mistakes cleaned up so that we can execute at a high level." ---Franklinton head football coach Jonathon Barber
"Nice to get to 3-1 going into the bye. Northlake did a good job with their short passing game in the first half to keep our offense off the field. We made some adjustments in the second half. John Thomas Caldwell is playing very well at linebacker for us. He's like a coach on the field. He doesn't get the attention he deserves. And Adrainuen Johnson had 240 yards rushing as he controlled the second half. Kemontre Magee is also playing really well for us on offense." ---Pine head football coach Bradley Seal
"It was a good high school football game. We scored to take the lead with 2:49 left in the fourth so we need one more stop to win the game and just couldn't get it. Our kids played hard and came up just a little short. We have to do a better job of not giving up scores right before the half and at the end of the game if we want to win. It's tough losing those close one. It hurts your team morale but you just have to keep fighting and improving and get ready for next week." ---Varnado head football coach Adam Brumfield
"We came out and beat ourselves in the first half. We had a punt blocked and several bad snaps. Then we blew coverage on defense twice that gave up two touchdowns. After halftime we made some adjustments and came out and finally played ball for two quarters." ---Bens Ford head football coach Destin Pittman
"First, I loved being back on the field with the Demons and seeing a lot of friends from the past. I loved how we started fast and competed. We had two key offensive injuries but was so happy for the guys that stepped in and seeing our guys elevate their play to take care of their teammates. We all wanted to finish stronger but finally finished a game and competed for 48 minutes." ---Denham Springs head football coach Brett Beard (Brett is a former FHS assistant coach.)
(Note - Denham Springs starting quarterback Reese Mooney, who went out in the first quarter of their game with the Demons with an injury, has a broken ankle and will be out eight weeks per Coach Beard. He is a junior.)
"Growing pains. Kids played hard and well in spots. Unfortunately, our inexperience showed itself in very untimely spots. We have some young guys out there competing their tails off in a tough district. They will continue to learn and we will continue to coach them up." ---Mandeville head football coach Hutch Gonzales
"Funny how football emulates life. Sometimes it takes a loss to show your weaknesses in character and mental toughness. It's my responsibility to use this loss to develop character. Then fix football fundamentals. Tough loss to a very good St Thomas team last night. We got down early in the game. At that point you make a psychological choice to fight back and stand up to adversity. We did not play as a team last night. Instead, we played as individuals on the team. The team suffered. We lost. 26-0 to St Thomas. Our coaching staff has to piece the team back together. Get back to playing as one unit. Developing character and fixing the x and o's of football. This week we have Northlake Christian at Independence Tiger Stadium. I expect to see a different Tiger team on the field next Friday." ---Independence head football coach Scott Shaffett
