Carey Bateman, a member of the Washington-St. Tammany Electric Co-op board of directors, passed away last Friday at age 89.
Bateman had served on the WST board for the past 18 years. He was an insurance agency owner in Franklinton for 40 years, and was active in the community.
Charles Hill, General Manager & CEO of WST said, “Mr. Bateman was a true gentleman that loved the cooperative and his community and he served both with the utmost dignity. He was a member of the WST Board of Directors for 18 years and will be sorely missed by all. May he rest in peace.”
Dr. Francis Cefalu, president of the WST Board of Directors, said, “Mr. Bateman, being the model board member, was always attentive, responsive, engaged and concerned. He will definately be missed.”
In terms of filling Bateman’s seat on the board of directors, Dr. Cefalu commented, “Out of total respect for him the board has decided not to rush to find his replacement. The process we chose to do so will be discussed at the January board meeting.”
