Hurricane Ida, a pandemic, vandals, and last March’s storm won’t stop the 2021 Washington Parish Fair!
The Washington Parish Fair Committee Chairmen and Executive Board held their regularly scheduled September meeting on Monday (September 13). Foremost on the minds of those in attendance was whether or not to continue with plans to hold the 2021 edition of the fair, particularly after the Fair was cancelled last year because of COVID.
The Lt Governor's office has informed the executive board that there are no restrictions in place to prevent the Fair except wearing a mask indoors. It was also reported that Tangipahoa Parish will host its fair and the State Fair of LA held in Shreveport will also be open.
Statistics on the vaccination rate in the region were reported as well as other information from Homeland Security. Following a discussion where each member present had the opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions, a vote was held, resulting in a decision to hold the Fair as scheduled.
So....the 2021 edition of the WP Free Fair will run exactly as planned from October 20 - 24. The fair will open with the traditional Wednesday morning parade and close on Sunday evening.
This year's main stage entertainment will feature headliners Canton Spirtuals and the Fair Queen Pageant on Wednesday night, Coffee Anerson on Thursday night, Frank Foster on Friday night, and Soul Revival and Category 6 on Saturday night. The stage committee will begin releasing the names of the opening acts and Down by the Branch will also make public its scheduled entertainment within the next week.
