When Washington Parish Schools open for a new school year this Friday, six of the schools in the parish system and Bowling Green will have new principals.
It’s a large turnover, brought about by retirements and promotions.
At Franklinton High School, the new principal needs no introduction.
Shane Smith was the FHS head football coach who brought the state championship home to Franklinton in 2010. Since then, he was an assistant football coach at Southeastern Louisiana University and then moved into an administration position with the Washington Parish Schools.
He succeeds Rene Burris at the helm of Washington Parish’s largest high school.
Two other parish high schools also have new principals. At Mount Hermon, Dawn Seal has retired and has been succeeded by former assistant principal Lee Bond.
At Pine High School, former principal Jennifer Thomas has been promoted to Director of Personnel for the parish school system. Former assistant principal Ramona Thomas is the new principal at Pine.
At Franklinton Elementary, Rachel Sumrall is the new principal, while Keri Crowe is the new principal at Franklinton Primary. And Lisa Magee is the new principal at Thomas Elementary.
Meanwhile, at Bowling Green School, former principal Beverly Young has retired. Taking over as principal at the school is Phil Junkins.
