A recall election seeking to remove a Franklinton alderman will be held next March.
Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a proclamation last week declaring that the recall election on March 26, 2022 will ask voters if Franklinton Alderman Heath Spears shall be recalled from office.
Organizers of a petition drive to force Spears into a recall election claim that he does not live within the Franklinton city limits.
Spears has said that his home in the city limits was damaged in a fire and he was temporarily living outside of the city limits.
The petition was certified by the Washington Parish Registrar of Voters’ Office after it determined that 737 of the 921 signatures on the petition were of registered parish voters.
At least 722 valid signatures were needed to force the recall election.
There are 2,164 registered voters in the Town of Franklinton and 1/3 of these registered voters needed to sign the petition in order for a recall election to be called. 1/3 of 2,164 is 722.
