In a crime that demonstrates just how low a thief will go, a Franklinton man died on Monday of last week and two days later a burglar or burglars broke into his residence.
John Ladner of Pico Road north of Franklinton passed away after a long battle with cancer.
Two days after his death, his niece, Sarah Ebarb, called the Sheriff’s Office to report that five long guns, a trailer, and a generator that was still in the box were stolen from Mr. Ladner’s residence after his death.
Sgt. Michael Thomas of the Sheriff’s Office responded to the call and met with Mrs. Ebarb. Evidence was collected and the investigation is continuing.
