Washington Parish is now in the process of seeking a new director for the parish library system.
Al Barron, library director since 2011, passed away unexpectedly last month.
He came to Franklinton ten years ago to tke the reins of the parish sstem after serving with both the St. Tammany and the Jefferson Parish library systems.
During his ten years as director in Washington Parish, Barron is credited with upgrading and expanding the library system, especially in the outlying areas. Both Thomas and Enon saw major improvements in their branch libraries under Barron’s leadership.
The parish is taking applications for a new library systemdirector and expects to make an appointment within the next month or so.
