Friday of this week is a big deal for local high school football fans.
Two Franklinton area high school teams will be in significant playoff games on Friday, and at both schools there is plenty of excitement.
The Bowling Green Buccaneers will be playing for the MAIS 4A state championship at 3 p.m.
And at 7 p.m., the Pine Raiders will play Avoyelles in a LHSAA Class 3A round 2 game.
The Buccaneers will take on Tri-County Academy at 3 p.m. The game will be played at Jackson Academy, in Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson Academy is 128 miles from Franklinton --- allow about 3 hours driving time.
Pine's game will be played at Avoyelles High School in Moreauville, located in central Louisiana, starting at 7 p.m. Moreauville is located 149 miles west of Pine -- allow about 3 hours for the drive.
In another parish playoff game, Loreauville will play Bogalusa at 7 p.m. in a LHSAA second round Class 3A playoff game. The game will be played at Bogalusa, starting at 7 p.m.
For both Bowling Green and Pine, there is history in the making. For the Buccaneers, it has been 26 years since their last state championship. And for Pine, the team's 8-2 regular season record is the best in school history.
At both schools, players, coaches, and administrators are asking all fans to make every possible attempt to attend either the Bowling Green or Pine game to support the teams. Strong fan support can be a helpful factor when a high school team is playing so far away from home.
