The Franklinton Demons baseball team won two huge district games last week over the Pearl River Rebels. On Wednesday they defeated the Rebels on the road 2-0 with Micah Wascom pitching a one hit shutout while striking out thirteen. On Thursday the Demons hosted the Rebels and won that one as well 7-1 with Dillon Pace getting the win on the mound.
The Demons are currently 16-8 on the season and are sitting at number nine in the class 4A power ratings. With just a few games left in the season the Demons are looking good as far as qualifying for the playoffs and hosting a much coveted first round playoff game.
Against the Rebels on Tuesday the Demons put two runners on base in the first but couldn’t score them. Wascom struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning.
The second inning was a big one for the Demons as Dillon Pace lead off with a walk before Trevor Vise reached on an infield hit. Tyler Hammond also walked to put two on as Pace had been picked off. With Tryson Fowler at the plate a balk was called on the Rebel pitcher to move the two runners over into scoring position. Fowler walked to load up the bases. Now with Micah Wascom batting two runs scored on a wild pitch to put the Demons up 2-0.
The Rebels were sat down in order in the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings.
Both teams put a runner on in the fifth but neither team took advantage. In the sixth the Demons loaded up the bases as Banyan Penton was hit by a pitch before Dillon Pace and Vise singled to load the bases. However, the Demons couldn’t push one across against the Rebels solid defense.
A Rebel batter doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and moved over to third on a dropped third strike but the Demons got the final out and ended the close and exciting game.
Trevor Vise had two hits for the Demons while Will Turner and Banyan Penton each had one.
The Demons are set to host the Salmen Spartans in the final district game of the season on Thursday April 21 and play Sumner on the road on April 22 in a non district game.
