The Franklinton Varsity Lady Demons were on the road this past weekend playing a double hitter, going 2-0, in the Jewel Sumner Tournament.
Franklinton played the Hammond Lady Tors Saturday in their first game. Amaya Robertson drove in four runs on one hit to lead the Lady Demons past Hammond Lady Tors 16-0. In the first inning, Robertson tripled, scoring three runs.
Franklinton got on the board in the top of the first inning after Laura Brauninger singled, scoring one run, Payton Galloway doubled, scoring two runs, Gracie Nelson singled, scoring one run, and Robertson tripled, scoring three runs.
The Lady Demons added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Nelson walked, Robertson was struck by a pitch, and Brauninger singled, each scoring one run.
Franklinton added one run in the third. Kayden Ard stole home, making the score 11-0.
The Lady Demons then scored five runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Skylar Branch doubled, scoring two runs, Galloway doubled, scoring two runs, and Audrey Carter singled, scoring one run.
Branch earned the win for Franklinton. They surrendered one hit and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking one. B. James took the loss for the Hammond Lady Tors. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering 16 runs on 12 hits, striking out three and walking 11.
The Lady Demons piled up 12 hits in the game. Number seven hitter, Shyanne Burris, showed the depth of Franklinton’s lineup by leading them with three hits in three at bats. Brauninger and Branch each collected multiple hits for the Lady Demons.
Franklinton showed patience at the plate, collecting 11 walks for the game. Brauninger, Heaven McNeese, and Nelson led the team with two free passes each. Branch threw an immaculate inning in the fourth, striking out the side on nine pitches. The Lady Demons were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
Lily Anderson led the Hammond Lady Tors with one hit in one at bat. The Lady Tors didn't commit a single error in the field. Jamaya Francis had the most chances in the field with four.
Franklinton Lady Demons vs. Slaughter Community Charter Varsity Knights
Shyanne Burris drove in four runs on three hits to lead Franklinton past Slaughter Community Charter Varsity Knights 14-3 on Saturday. Burris singled in the third inning, scoring two runs, and hit a solo home run to center field in the second inning, scoring one.
Skylar Branch struck out 17 batters on the day. They also surrendered six hits and three runs over six innings while walking two.
The Lady Demons got on the board in the second inning after Burris hit a solo home run to center field.
Franklinton scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the third inning. Branch tripled, scoring two runs, Payton Galloway tripled, scoring one run, Burris singled, scoring two runs, and Laura Brauninger singled, scoring two runs.
Caroline Smith took the loss for Slaughter Community Charter Varsity Knights. The right-handed pitcher went six innings, surrendering 14 runs (seven earned) on 18 hits, striking out nine and walking three.
Franklinton accumulated 18 hits in the game. Brauninger and Branch each collected four hits for the Lady Demons. Galloway and Burris each drove in four runs for Franklinton. Kayden Ard and Amaya Robertson each collected multiple hits for the Lady Demons.
