The Franklinton Demons football team got back on track as they defeated the Loranger Wolves last Thursday night on the road, 35-14. This moves the Demons record to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in district.
The Demons have a big district game this Friday in Demon Stadium against district opponent Lakeshore. Not only is a share of the district title on the line but playoff seeding is also on the line, as well as a possible home playoff game in the first round. Lakeshore defeated the Demons twice last season, once in the regular season and again in the first round of the playoffs.
Against Loranger the Demons scored on their first drive of the game, going 59 yards for a touchdown that was provided by Kollin Williams on a 52 yard reception from Zion Anders. After an interception ended the Wolves next drive the Demons scored on an 18 yard run by Anders for a 14-0 lead with 1:34 left in the first period.
Loranger drove to the Demons 39 but turned the ball over on downs and the Demons scored on a 45 yard pass to Daniel Bryant from Anders to go up 21-0 with 6:39 left in the first half.
The Wolves threatened just before halftime but Elijah Tate intercepted a pass in the end zone to end that threat. The Demons then ran out the clock to go into the half leading 21-0.
The Demons put together a most impressive drive to begin the second half as they went 60 yards to score when Bryant caught a 7 yard pass from Anders to go up 28-0 with 9:17 remaining in the third.
Loranger then got on the board as they used a long drive to score when their sophomore quarterback went in from two yards out with 2:54 left in the third for a 28-7 score.
The Demons special teams answered with a 65 yard kickoff return by Kollin Williams to put the Demons back up by four scores at 35-7.
The Wolves got on the board again with 4:09 left in the game as their quarterback again went in from two yards out to cut the score to 35-14. The Demons then used up the remaining time driving down inside the red zone but let the time run out.
Demons first year coach Guy Lecompte still sees areas in which his team can get better. "Happy for the win but there are things we need to improve on to make a playoff run."
The Demons senior quarterback Zion Anders was the leading statistical player in the game with 257 yards passing with three touchdowns and one interception on 11 completions and 20 attempts. He also rushed once for 18 yards and a touchdown. Daniel Bryant was the leading receiver with 100 yards and 2 touchdowns on 4 receptions, Kollin Williams had 2 receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown, Kelly Daniels had 4 receptions for 35 yards and Conner Magee had one reception for 45 yards. Rayshone Manuel rushed five times for 37 yards and Senqualon Conerly rushed six times for 45.
