The Franklinton Junior High Falcons football team continues to roll through its schedule with out a loss after defeating the Pine Raiders last Tuesday 13-0 in Demon Stadium. This pushes the Falcons’ record to 7-0 on the season with one regular season game remaining and then Parish Championship game.
The Falcons had possession first in the game and made one first down before punting the ball away to the Raiders. The Raiders ensuing drive began at their own eighteen yard line and encapsulated the remainder of the first quarter and the entire second quarter as they ran the ball for "three yards and a cloud of dust" down the field. However, the Raiders were at the Falcons eighteen yard line when time ran out in the first half. The score for the game at the halftime intermission would stand at 0-0.
The Raiders had the ball first in the second half and ran the kick out to midfield where they would begin their second half drive. Their opening drive of the second half would also take up the entire third quarter but they were facing a fourth and six at the Falcons 25 early in the fourth period.
The Raiders quarterback was picked off an a pass play by Jon Wesley Magee who returned the interception eighty yards for a touchdown. The long return for a touchdown gave the Falcons the lead at 7-0 after Austin Barber hit the extra point kick with 7:44 to go in the game.
The ensuing kickoff was mishandled by the Raiders and Max Mangrum recovered it for the Falcons, setting them up with possession at the Raiders twenty six yard line. Falcons quarterback Jayden Burkhalter passed to Avantez Brumfield for twenty three yards to set the Falcons up at the three yard line. Burkhalter then ran it in from there to put the Falcons up 13-0 with 5:34 left in the game.
The Raiders then took over at their own ten yard line after the kick and moved out to their twenty four before turning the ball over on downs with 1:18 left in the game. The Falcons then knelt out the clock to preserve the win.
The week before the Falcons defeated the Mt Hermon Yellow Jackets 27-0. Nigel Cole had a 28 yard touchdown, Chakyn McClain had a 58 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Avantez Brumfield had touchdown runs of 6 and 70 yards. Austin Barber was 3 of 4 on extra point kicks.
The Falcons will be in action again on October 25 at Varnado.
