Original article:
In a statement released Saturday, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association announced that the 2024 football playoff brackets are being delayed due to a lawsuit filed against the association by a Baton Rouge high school.
The litigation involves a penalty levied by the association for the alleged usage of an ineligible player.
Several Washington Parish public high school football teams that are eligible for the 2024 playoffs were eagerly awaiting the release of the playoff brackets. Now, these schools will have to wait to find out which team they will be facing in the first round.
The entire Louisiana football playoffs operates on a relatively tight schedule, and the delay raises the possibility of that tight schedule being harmed. However, it is The Era-Leader's understanding that attorneys for the LHSAA are working to solve the legal issues with the hope of releasing the playoff brackets as soon as possible.
This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
Meanwhile, here is the official press release from LHSAA regarding the delay:
***The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) will delay the release of the 2024 postseason football brackets due to ongoing litigation with one of our member schools. This situation could affect all 307 schools that participate in football across the state. Given the possible repercussions of the decision made, the LHSAA will withhold all eight postseason brackets until the legal process is concluded and the matter is fully resolved. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our member schools and fans as we work through this important issue.***
