Parish Playoff Picture - Continuing our look at the playoff picture for the four public school teams.
Franklinton dropped to #17 in division 2 with their recent loss. If they win their remaining two games, they should have a home playoff game. If they split them, they will probably be on the road. If they lose both they would definitely be on the road somewhere.
Pine dropped to #9 in division 3 with their recent loss and with one game remaining control their destiny. Win it and have a home playoff game. Lose it and they could still have a home game but its possible they may slip below the threshold and be on the road.
Bogalusa remained at #2 in division 3 as they did not play. With two games remaining they have probably locked down a home playoff game no matter the outcome. However, if they win out and remain in the top 4, they would receive a bye week in the first round to rest and recuperate. So, the remaining games are important.
Varnado won their game and remains at #28 in division 4. The Wildcats simply need to win games to remain in the top 28 and remain eligible for the playoffs. Remember only the top 28 qualify this season.
Notes and Quotes
"It was a close game that ultimately was decided by special teams. I believe this type of game can make us better and prepare us for the playoffs if we do the things necessary to improve in the areas that we were deficient in." Franklinton head coach Guy Lecompte
"Very pleased with our effort. Kids could have easily let the last three weeks and Fair week affect their focus. That did not happen and we executed well. Happy to be in the playoffs and have a chance to make some noise." Bowling Green head coach Phill Junkins
"Kids played well. I'm happy for them. Had a lot of different kids get in the end zone and that's always good. Defense and special teams had a good game as well. We have a really tough match up next week with Riverside. We have to keep improving if we want to win." Varnado head coach Adam Brumfield
"I know they (Porters Chapel) have struggled on the back half of their season and that we were leading against them at half time earlier in the season. We had some big turnovers and blown assignments on defense that cost us that game. But we are looking forward to getting to play them and trying to get our first ever playoff win." Bens Ford head coach Destin Pittman
"Tough one last night, had the lead until two minutes left and made some critical mistakes that cost us. We need to finish drives to beat a team of that caliber and they made plays and we didn't. We will learn and grow and be better next week." Denham Springs head coach Brett Beard
"We got off to a fast start spearheaded by Ashton Terrell. He had a big game last night with two touchdowns and an interception. Zaire Rogers found pay dirt and Lemar Harris scored twice as well! Defensively we pitched a shutout and those kids played with grit rebounding from last week! Tough one coming up Friday as we travel to Sterlington to take on defending 3A champs. Hopefully we can get a few of our guys back from injury." Amite head coach Zephaniah Powell
