I had an opportunity to sit down with the new Franklinton High Demons football coach, Guy Lecompte recently. The Demons are in the midst of their spring football drills and will be having an intra-squad scrimmage on Friday in Demon Stadium.
Coach Lecompte identified the Demons ‘ goals. "Well, they're always to win district and a state championship but we want to practice like champions, be a disciplined program, be a prepared team and the results will take care of themselves."
Specific goals for the spring session include "Identifying which players can do what and find who can be successful and put in right positions for the fall."
Some of the things Coach Lecompte hopes to teach the Demons are: "It's a privilege to play the game. We want our kids to be great on the field but also in the classroom and the community. We want to provide them options outside of football."
The Demons will still be operating the same defense (3-3) and offense (spread) and most fans will not notice any difference but Coach Lecompte advised that despite the same systems that they will be run with a different philosophy within that system.
Coach Lecompte felt that the FHS football facilities were one of the biggest positives he's seen since he's taken the job. "Facilities have tremendous potential. We want to optimize and build on it. There's also been great support from the administration and the town."
The Demons had previously had a scrimmage with Jesuit lined up but Jesuit pulled out.
