The Franklinton Demons football team faced off with the Pine Raiders football team last Thursday for a limited scrimmage.
The two teams each ran a series of plays to begin the scrimmage with the Demons scoring on their series with a 13 yard run by quarterback Zion Anders. Cole Colletti added the extra point.
The Raiders moved the ball deep into the Demons territory but did not score.
The teams then ran a series of goal line plays with the Demons failing to score before the Raiders scored twice. Raiders quarterback Luke Spears passed to Adrainuen Johnson for a touchdown before Aiden McIntosh also scored on a running play.
The teams ran another series of plays wherein the Demons scored when Keyon Nelson ripped off a nice 70 yard touchdown run.
The Raiders moved the ball but were hindered by penalties on their ensuing series of plays and failed to score.
The rest of the scrimmage was the two varsity teams running a seven on seven scrimmage against each other.
Franklinton Coach Jonathon Barber saw some good things and things to work on. "There were definitely some bright spots. We didn't have many negative plays offensively, but we turned it over too many times. We have to make better decisions with the football. Defensively we have to be better. The strength of our team is our front seven and we didn't play up to our standard in that area. I was happy for our players to have some success, but they understand that we are better than our performance. There wasn't a ton of excitement from our guys, because they know we can be better. The special thing about this team is they love one another and they refuse to be complacent. We will be challenged in a different way next week, and we look forward to the opportunity."
Pine Coach Bradley Seal was also pleased overall with what he saw. "I was happy with the way we played. We ran the ball effectively. Our quarterback got outside the pocket and made a couple of plays. Defensively we gave up a couple of big plays. We need to get that fixed."
The Demons will now play the Northshore Panthers in the Lakeshore Jamboree on Thursday August 26. The Raiders are scheduled to play the Loranger Wolves in the Loranger jamboree on Aug. 27.
