The Franklinton High School Demons boys basketball team finished out their regular season schedule with a nice district win on the road at Pearl River. After an even start the Demons jumped out to a big lead and cruised to a 55-46 victory over the home standing Rebels.
The Demons were ahead 16-13 at the end of the first period as the teams were battling very evenly, much as they did in their first district game played at Franklinton. The Demons owned the second quarter, however, as they scored fourteen points while holding the Rebels to just two points in the period. The Demons' fantastic quarter allowed them to hold a 30-15 advantage at the halftime intermission.
In the third period the Demons built on their lead as they scored eighteen points and held the Rebels to eleven for a 48-26 advantage. The Rebels stormed back in the fourth in a desperate comeback attempt before their home crowd as they scored twenty points and the Demons only managed seven but their comeback attempt was too little, too late as the Demons had too big of a lead and won 55-46.
Tradell Causey and Jakobie McCormick each scored fifteen points to lead the Demons while DJ Harvey had eight points, Amarie Conerly seven, N'Jyran Williams six and Jaiden Garrett four points.
Coach Brad Ostreicher spoke about the game and his group of seniors after the game. "Last night (against Pearl River) was the best game we played all year, this group of seniors deserved just that. All four seniors have a bright future and were an absolute pleasure to coach throughout the last four years. Each senior was the true definition of student athlete and will be successful in all of their future endeavors."
N'Jyran Williams, Senqualon Conerly, Jakobie McCormick and Tradell Causey are the seniors for the Demons, graduating in May 2023.
