The Franklinton Demons and Lady Demons basketball teams played the Pine Raiders and Lady Raiders last Friday evening in the Franklinton gym as part of the Franklinton tournament. The teams split wins with the Demons coming out on top and the Pine Lady Raiders coming out with a win.
The Demons got out to a fine 17-6 lead after the first period. With the Demons leading 25-16 with 4:07 left in the second period the Raiders outscored the Demons 11-3 the rest of the period to pull to within one point at 28-27 at the halftime.
In the third period the Demons opened with a 7-0 run to go up 35-27 but the Raiders pulled back to within five at 40-35 at the end of the third.
The final period saw neither team able to pull away as the Demons held a shaky 47-44 lead at the 4:26 mark. The Demons Jakobie McKormick hit a three pointer at the 4:08 mark to kick start a 17-2 run to end the game and pull away from the Raiders and take a 64-46 victory.
RJ Hart led the Demons and the game with 18 points. Jakobie McKormick had 14 points, Amarie Conerly had 13 points, Tradell Causey 6, Donald Martin 5 points, N'Jyran Williams 4 and Jaiden Garrett had 3. Kendall Fountain and DJ Garrett were the top two scorers for the Raiders with 11 and 14 points respectively.
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 16-2 lead after the first period before stretching that lead to 27-7 at the halftime intermission. In the third period they outscored the Lady Demons 15-7 for a 42-12 lead. The Lady Raiders scored 12 points in the final period to the Lady Demons 5 for a final score of 52-17.
Jailynne Webb led the Lady Demons with 9 points, Annsley Brown had 8 points and Aviya Brown had 2 points. Samantha Thomas and Dillon Sumrall had 12 and 10 points respectively to lead the Lady Raiders.
The Demons and Lady Demons have games this week in the Fontainebleu tournament, the Demons will travel to Hammond on Friday and Sara T. Reed high school will come to Franklinton to play on Monday December 12.
