The Franklinton Demons basketball team enjoyed a week of mixed success last week as they defeated Parkview Baptist on Monday before falling to Pope John Paul in overtime on Wednesday.
The Demons fell behind to the Eagles of Parkview Baptist as they trailed 14-5 after one period of play. A nice second period allowed them to pull to within two points as they outscored the Eagles 18-11 to trail 25-23 at the halftime.
In the third period the Demons pulled ahead as they scored eleven points to the Eagles five to hold a 34-30 lead. The Eagles outscored the Demons in the fourth, 18-14 to tie the game and send it into overtime. In the overtime period both teams hit a three pointer to remain tied before RJ Hart hit a bucket with just two seconds left to put the Demons on top. The Eagles could not manage a score within those final two seconds and the Demons won 53-51.
Tradell Causey led the Demons with thirteen points while RJ Hart, Amarie Conerly and Jakobie McCormick each scored eleven points. Jackson Dorsett scored three while N'Jyran Williams chipped in two points. The Demons hit on ten of fourteen free throws while the Eagles hit on four of six.
Against the Jaguars of Pope John Paul the Demons led after one period 12-10 but the Jaguars took a 21-20 lead into the halftime as they outscored the Demons 11-8.
In the third the Demons opened with a three pointer from Amarie Conerly to retake the lead and maintained that lead until 1:15 left in the third period when the Jaguars went on a 9-0 run to go ahead 38-34. Jaiden Garrett scored the final two baskets of the period to have the teams tied at the end of three 38-38.
In the crucial fourth period the Jaguars used a 9-2 run to take a 47-40 lead and the Demons could not catch up, although they pulled to within three points on three different occasions. Down 59-52 with just :33 left the Demons managed to score a basket and get the ball back in time to score again with :04 left and to trail 59-56. The Demons could not manage to regain possession of the ball and the Jaguars won 59-56 in a hard fought game.
Tradell Causey and Jaiden Garrett lead the Demons with fourteen points each. RJ Hart had eleven as did Amarie Conerly, Dariel Harvey, Jakobie McCormick and N'Jyran Williams each chipped in two points.
The Jaguars hit on twenty of twenty eight free throw attempts.
The Demons are next scheduled to play on January 3 against French Settlement on the road and on January 5 at Woodlawn, also on the road.
