The Franklinton High School baseball team defeated a solid Walker Wildcats team 9-1 last Friday during the Franklinton tournament. Evan and Clay Tageant, sons of FHS head baseball coach Jeff Tageant and retired FHS teacher Toni Tageant, threw out the ceremonial first pitches before the game. Evan is currently the head coach at Belle Chasse High School and Clay is the FHS pitching coach and both played baseball at FHS along with numerous other accolades.
The Demons got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the first inning as an error and a walk put two on for Elisha Hart who reached on an error and plated a run. Banyan Penton then double in a run before Da'Ron Sinceno singled in a run and after Dylan Stafford was hit by a pitch to load the bases Tryson Fowler was walked, which pushed in the fourth run.
Walker scored their only run in the second inning and looked to score more as they had bases loaded with one out. Dillon Pace pitched out of the jam and held them to just the one run.
The Demons added another in the bottom of the fifth as Stafford walked and scored on Fowlers single.
The Demons scored three more in the fourth as Micah Wascom lead off with a nice triple to right field. Elisha Hart walked before Penton singled in a run. Rickken Burkhalter then singled in two runs with a hit to right field. The Demons added their final run in the fifth as Fowler was hit by a pitch and scored on Wascom's double.
Neither team scored in the sixth and the Wildcats were three and out in the top of the seventh to end the game with the Demons on top 9-1.
Dillon Pace pitched the complete game spacing out six hits over the seven innings, walking one and striking out seven.
Offensively the Demons were led by Micah Wascom with a triple and a double, Banyan Penton with a double and a single and Da'Ron Sinceno, Tryson Fowler and Rickken Burkhalter each with a single.
The Demons will be on the road at West Feliciana on Friday March 17 playing the host Saints in their tournament. On Saturday the Demons will play Catholic PC and Plaquemine at West Feliciana. On Monday March 20 the Demons will host the Hannan Hawks as they open district action.
