The Franklinton Demons baseball team split their four games last week as they opened the 2024 season under their new head coach, Clay Tageant. Coach Clay Tageant is the son of long time FHS baseball coach, Jeff Tageant, who retired following last season.
On Saturday the Demons travelled to Springfield to play a non-district game. The Demons got out in front in the top of the first as Rickken Burkhalter singled, Micah Wascom reached on an error, Elisha Hart was walked before Daron Sinceno also drew a walk to plate a run.
In the second inning the Demons broke the game open as Kaden Breaux led off the inning with a homerun to open the floodgates for a 12-0 lead after the inning was finally over.
The Demons added three more runs in the fourth as Wascom doubled in two runs and Hart singled in another for a 15-0 lead after four.
Springfield put up a small threat to score in the fifth but a nice double play ended most of that.
Elisha Hart led the Demons in the hitting department with two doubles and a single. Jojo Burkhalter and Micah Wascom each had a double and a single, Rickken Burkhalter had two singles, Kaden Breaux had a homerun, TJ Bailey had a double as did Kaden Buffinet. Kaedyn Jenkins and Dalton Freeman each had a single.
Micah Wascom pitched two complete innings striking out four, walking none and allowing no hits. Dalton Freeman pitched two complete innings striking out one, allowing no walks and two hits. Kaedyn Jenkins pitched one inning allowing one hit and giving up one walk.
On Tuesday of last week, the Demons got their first win of the season, in their first game, 6-5 against Albany. On Thursday evening the Demons fell to DeLasalle 15-0. Kaden Breaux had a single, TJ Bailey had a single and Elisha Hart also singled. On Friday evening the Demons also fell to Walker, 5-2. Kaden Breaux singled, Kaedyn Jenkins singled, Elisha Hart singled and TJ Bailey singled.
The Demons will be in action this week in the Ponchatoula tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday against Lutcher, Ponchatoula and Hammond. On March 5 the Demons will travel to Holden.
