The Franklinton Demons baseball team opened their season last Tuesday evening at home with a nice 10-0 win over the Albany Hornets. Starting pitcher Will Turner had a great outing pitching all seven innings for a complete game no hitter while striking out twelve batters.
The Hornets got a runner on in the first but he was promptly picked off. After that neither team threatened until the third when Ricken Burkhalter singled and moved to second on a wild pitch but was left there.
The Hornets again got a runner on in the fourth who stole second but was picked off there. After three up and three down in the top of the fifth the Demons exploded in the bottom of the fifth as they scored eight runs as they used an error, a hit batter and a single to load the bases for Tryson Fowler who sacrificed in a run before Trevor Vise singled in a run. Micah Wascom singled in two runs before Turner doubled him in. Dillon Pace singled in Turner then scored on an error before another error allowed the eighth run of the inning to score.
After shutting out the Hornets in the top of the sixth the Demons scored two more runs when Ricken Burkhalter drew a walk and was doubled in by Fowler. Vise reached on an error that allowed Fowler to score the tenth run for the run rule victory.
Will Turner got the win on the mound pitching all seven innings as he allowed no hits, struck out twelve and walked three.
Offensively for the Demons Ricken Burkhalter had two singles, Tryson Fowler had a double as did Will Turner, Micah Wascom singled, Trevor Vise singled and Dillon Pace singled.
The Demons will host the Varnado Wildcats on Wednesday March 2 then travel to play Ponchatoula in Hammond on Friday March 4 before playing Hammond on March 5, also on the road. The Demons will stay on the road on Tuesday March 8 at Loranger.
