The Franklinton Demons baseball team took a nice non-district win over the Pine Raiders last Tuesday in Pine. After falling behind early, they fought back for a 12-2 win highlighted by junior Micah Wascom's towering homerun over the right field fence.
The Demons scored in the first as Micah Wascom drew a walk, stole second before he was driven in by Elisha Hart's single. The Raiders scored two in the bottom of the first as Lucas Lemaire singled to lead off before Ethan Ryals was hit by a pitch. Preston Stogner ground out but this allowed Lemaire to score to tie the game. Trey Knight then sacrificed a fly into the outfield which allowed Ryals to score to take a 2-1 lead over the Demons.
The Demons tied the game in the third as Wascom hit a solo homerun over the right field fence. The Demons added two more in the fourth when Cade Phillips singled before Rickken Burkhalter drew a walk. A wild pitch allowed both runners to move into scoring position and a ground out scored Phillips before a wild pitch allowed Burkhalter to score. Another run added in the fifth as Wascom reached on a dropped third strike, stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch for a 5-2 Demons lead.
The Demons took control of the game in the sixth as they scored six more runs before adding a run in the seventh for the final of 12-2.
Dillon Pace pitched five innings for the Demons allowing four hits, walking none and striking out six. Brady Smith pitched one complete inning allowing one hit and striking out two while Tyler Hammond pitched one inning striking out one.
For the Raiders Brody Thomas pitched five innings allowing four hits, walking two and striking out five. Luke Spears pitched two innings allowing three hits, three walks and striking out three.
Offensively for the Demons, Banyan Penton had two singles, Micah Wascom had a homerun, Elisha Hart a single, Cade Phillips a single, Da'Ron Sinceno a single and Dylan Stafford a single.
For the Raiders Lucas Lemaire had two singles, Brody Thomas had a double, Luke Spears a single and Turner Deleon a single.
The Demons also participated in the West Feliciana tournament over the weekend, defeating the host West Feliciana Saints 3-2 and falling to Catholic Point Coupee.
The Demons will be on the road at Pearl River on March 24, then will host Pearl River on Monday March 27 before going to Salmen on March 29.
