The Franklinton Varsity Lady Demons softball team traveled to play their season opener Saturday February 17 against the Hammond Lady Tors. Skylar Branch hit two home runs and drove in four as the Lady Demons defeated Hammond 15-1.
Branch struck out 12 batters in five innings, surrendering one hit and one run while walking no one.
The Lady Demons got on the board in the first inning after Kayden Ard singled, scoring one run.
Four more Lady Demon runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Ard doubled, scoring one run, Branch homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Audrey Carter singled, scoring one run.
The Lady Demons scored five runs on two hits in the top of the fourth inning. Branch drew a walk, scoring one run, Payton Galloway drew a walk, scoring one run, Heaven McNeese singled, scoring one run, and Shyanne Burris grounded out, scoring two runs.
Piper Petrolia hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth for the Hammond Lady Tors.
The Lady Demons scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Branch homered to left field, scoring two runs, Burris doubled, scoring one run, Amaya Robertson grounded out, scoring one run, and Laura Brauninger drew a walk, scoring one run.
The Lady Demons tallied a total of 12 hits in the game. Ard, Branch, McNeese, Galloway, and Burris each collected two hits for Franklinton.
The Lady Demons stole 10 bases in the game. Franklinton’s players were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
