The Franklinton Demons baseball team won two of three games played during their tournament held last week. Wins against Sumner (11-1) and Holden (4-0) against a loss to Doyle (9-5) leaves the Demons with a 6-5 record on the season.
On Saturday against Doyle neither team threatened in the first inning or the second. In the third inning the Demons managed to put two runners on with two outs but couldn't get any across to keep the score tied at 0-0.
In the fourth the Tigers of Doyle scored two runs in the top half of the inning on three hits, a walk and a hit batter. The Demons answered with one run in the bottom half as JoJo Burkhalter singled before moving to third on a passed ball. He scored on Da'Ron Sinceno's single to cut the Tigers lead to 2-1.
In the fifth inning the Tigers broke the game open with eight runs and a 9-1 lead. Neither team threatened in the sixth but the Demons made a push in the bottom of the seventh as they scored four runs. A hit batter and two consecutive errors loaded the bases for Rickken Burkhalter, who singled in a run as did Micah Wascom afterwards. Elisha Hart hit a sacrifice fly to score another run before the Demons score their final run on an errant pick-off attempt. With the score at 9-5 the Tigers pitcher struck out the Demons final batter to end the uprising.
Rickken Burkhalter had three singles in the game while Micah Wascom, Dalton Freeman, JoJo Burkhalter, Da'Ron Sinceno and TJ Bailey each had a single.
Dalton Freeman pitched four innings striking out seven, walking three and allowing six hits. Mason Bowman pitched one inning allowing four hits and Jordy Thomassen pitched two innings striking out three with one walk and no hits.
The Demons will travel to Hahnville to play the Tigers on March 15 before kicking off district action against Hannan on the road on March 18.
