The Franklinton Demons basketball team won a non-district game last Thursday at home against the Independence Tigers 74-54.
The two teams battled in the first period going back and forth until the Tigers ended the stanza with a slim 21-20 lead. The Demons, however, owned the second period as they held the Tigers to single digits while scoring 17 points of their own to take a nice 37-27 lead at the halftime intermission.
The Tigers tried to fight back in the third but the Demons kept up their pressure and increased their lead scoring 14 points and holding Independence to just 9 points for a 51-36 lead after three periods of play.
In the final period the Tigers managed 16 points in a futile effort at a comeback as the Demons still outscored them with their 23 fourth quarter points for the final score of 74-54.
RJ Hart scored 16 for the Demons, Billy Gross scored 16, and Wyatt Lambert scored 16. Sequalon Conerly scored 13, Kobie McKormick and N'Jyren Williams each scored 8 and Kee'Yontreh Williams scored 2. The Demons hit on 11 of their 23 free throw attempts.
Kelly also led the Demons in assists with five while N'Jyren Williams had four and McCormick had three. Billy Gross had 19 rebounds, ten defensive and 9 offensive to lead the Demons. Lambert had 15 total, 4 defensive and 11 offensive and N'Jyren Williams had 8 total, four of each.
Boatright for Independence was their top scorer as he scored 30 points, 16 of which came in the first period and included eight three pointers.
Head coach Brad Oestreicher and assistant coach Atari Warner invite Demon fans to come out to see the Demons as they travel to Pearl River on Thursday February 3 for a district game and also to Loranger on February 7 for a non-district game.
