The Franklinton Demons baseball team did not have a great week last week as they dropped all three varsity games that they played. With all three being important district games that made them even more important. The Demons dropped two games to Hannan, 5-2 on Monday and 9-1 on Wednesday, before falling to Pearl River 1-0 on Thursday.
On Monday against the Hannan Hawks the Demons and the Hawks battled scoreless until the third inning when the Hawks scored three runs using three hits, an error and a fielders choice.
The Demons got one on the board in the bottom of the third as Rickken Burkhalter walked before Micah Wascom singled. Burkhalter moved to third on Wascom's single and Wascom stole second. Elisha Hart was put out at first on a dropped third strike but Burkhalter scored on the throw.
The Hawks scored two more in the fourth using a lead off triple, two more hits and an error to go up 5-1.
The Demons added another run in the fifth when Wascom tripled before an error allowed him to score. The Demons put two runners on in each of the six and seventh innings but could not score any more.
Offensively the Demons were led by the Southern Miss commit Micah Wascom with a triple and two singles. Kaden Buffinet had a double while Rickken Burkhalter and Jo Jo Burkhalter each had singles.
On the mound for the Demons Banyan Penton pitched five innings allowing five hits, walking none and striking out three. Dillon Pace pitched two innings allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one.
The Demons will host the Salmen Spartans this Friday evening in an important district game and also host the Pope John Paul Jaguars on Saturday in a non district game. The Demons will then host the Loranger Wolves on Monday April 3 before going to Loranger on April 5 with both games being district games.
