Well, football fans, it's back! We've got a brand new season ahead of us with new beginnings everywhere. Every team is undefeated and optimism abounds. I'm just looking forward to being at a game somewhere with the sights, sounds and even the smells of a good high school concession stand filling the night air.
I wish your team all the best this season and may the ball bounce your way!
Game of the Week - Bowling Green at Centreville. Centreville won this game last season as both teams ended with very similar seasons, Bowling Green at 5-4 and Centreville at 4-5 with both falling in the first round of the playoffs.
The Bucs would love to gain some measure of revenge for last season and the Tigers are a tough test, year in and year out. This game could set the tone for the season.
Notes and Quotes
The LHSAA has released a memo regarding the 2021/2021 sports seasons. The memo's highlight is the fact that games that are not played due to Covid issues will now be considered a forfeit (a loss) whereas last season they were considered a "no contest" (neither a loss or a win).
"Now having preventive measures that can be taken to avoid issues with the virus, any/all reasons that may occur as it relates to Covid that prevents your school not to fulfill a regular and/or postseason game, contest, match or meet will result in a forfeiture."
The LHSAA also addresses the issue from last season where it was alleged that certain schools conveniently had "Covid issues" before a game with an opponent they could not or likely could not defeat. The "no contest" they received last season from not playing that opponent did not hurt their power rating and they better positioned themselves for their respective playoffs.
"But, please know, unlike last year, we will not referee the alleged manipulation of Covid issue relief to facilitate avoidance of opponents for sport specific power rating reasons."
This will be very interesting going into the football season.
"We played well last night in a 27-0 win over the Northshore Vultures. Defense played well in pitching a shutout. The offense scored on every possession they touched it. We have to clean up our penalties on both sides of the ball, along with tackling a little better and staying on blocks but all in all a very good jamboree and something to build off of heading into the season."

"We came out strong on defense, that was a key point for us after last season was getting better on defense. I believe we accomplished that after last night. Our offense was clicking last night, we ran the ball very well. We still have improving to do overall in certain areas but I am looking forward to a fun season. We are excited about opening up next week with number one in the state Manchester academy. It isn't every day you get to open up the year with the two time defending state champions." ---- Bens Ford head
