The Bowling Green Lady Bucs traveled to Brookhaven Academy last Thursday to take on the Cougars before hosting them the following night in two district contests to finish regular season play for both schools.
The Lady Bucs led for most of the first quarter before a Brookhaven rally gave them a 13-12 lead after one period. The Cougars extended their lead with a 10-7 advantage in the second to put them ahead 23-19 at the half. The Cougars captured the third-quarter with a 11-10 margin. The Lady Bucs pulled within three points in the fourth before Brookhaven converted free throws in the final minutes to claim a 45-36 win.
Chloe Bertrand led with 14 points and grabbed 3 rebounds and Bailey Devall had 10 points and 3 rebounds. Claire Varnado (5 rebounds) and Claire Wascom (3 rebounds) each scored 4 points while Lanah Martinez and Lydia Tullos both added 2 points and 2 rebounds. Berkley Goings added 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
The following night, Brookhaven Academy traveled to Franklinton to face the Lady Bucs. Bowling Green got off to a good start and led 10-4 after the first quarter. The Cougars rebounded with a 10-6 second-quarter advantage with the Lady Bucs leading 16-14 at the half. Brookhaven doubled up the Lady Bucs 14-7 in the third. The Cougars outscored BGS 15-11 in the fourth to come away with a 43-34 win.
Claire Wascom led the Lady Bucs with 16 points and 6 rebounds while Bailey Devall and Chloe Bertrand each finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Lady Bucs return to action this week in the South State tournament held at Oak Forest Academy in Amite. BGS opens postseason play against Cathedral Catholic on Wednesday at 6:30 PM. A win for the Lady Bucs would likely set up a rematch against Brookhaven Academy in the tournament semifinals on Friday at 4 PM.
