The Franklinton Varsity Lady Demons was on the road last week, traveling to Fontainebleau where they played the Fontainebleau Varsity Lady Dawgs.
Skylar Branch collected four hits in four at bats, as the Lady Demons defeated Fontainebleau Varsity Lady Dawgs 12-4 on Thursday. Branch singled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and doubled in the seventh inning.
Branch struck out 14 batters on the day. They gave up seven hits and four runs over seven innings while walking one.
The Lady Demons jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Payton Galloway singled, scoring one run, Shyanne Burris singled, scoring three runs, and Amaya Robertson drew a walk, scoring one run.
A walk by Burris extended the Franklinton Varsity Lady Demons lead to 6-0 in the top of the second inning.
Butscher took the loss for Fontainebleau Varsity Lady Dawgs. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking 10.
Lady Demons piled up 13 hits in the game. Robertson and Burris each drove in three runs. Galloway collected two hits in three at bats.
Lady Dawgs, Kaitlyn Cortez, went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Fontainebleau in hits. Caroline Butscher, Cortez, and McKinley Mardis each drove in one run. Cortez stole three bases. Fontainebleau Varsity Lady Dawgs ran wild on the base paths, amassing seven stolen bases for the game. Fontainebleau Varsity Lady Dawgs turned one double play in the game.
